"Wabi-sabi
is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete It is a beauty of things modest and humble It is a beauty of things unconventional" Leonard Koren |

There is
always a healthy debate as to what is and what is not Wabi-Sabi. I'm
sure that there are plenty of people out there that would say that my
photography is not Wabi-Sabi. When looking at individual images I think
that some of images are and many are not. However the philosophy of
Wabi-Sabi shapes my overall process of simply making images that strike
me as beautiful wherever I happen to be. This has created a collection
of images that can be described as eclectic and whimsical while being
cultured and vibrant. |

Like many people attracted to Wabi-Sabi, I first learned of it when reading Kazuko Okakura’s book “The Book of Tea”. The term Wabi-Sabi is never mentioned in the book but soon after reading it I found Leonard Koren’s book “Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers” and was able to put a name on the idea. I have long been attracted to the Japanese ideal of simplicity and have endeavored to incorporate it as much as possible into art and life in general.
